Black & White

Started playing with the black and white mode.  The dynamic contrast is incredible.  There are quick snaps on the way home.

Bet he ain't much of a DIY man.  May be not even an Ikea man.

Reading the Good book.

It's only day 2 of my bible reading plan and I was already behind.  Managed to catch up a bit on the reading this morning.

Just coming to the part about the First Temple.  One observation is that the descriptions are so detailed to the point that they are almost redundant.  One cant help but developed a mental sketch of the Temple while reading on.  Thankfully, some kind soul has already sketch it out somewhat.

Artist depiction of the Temple (Drawing by Christiaan van Adrichem (1584).)

What a sight it must have been in its day.

A late 19th-century artist's conception of the Ark of the Covenant, employing a Renaissance cassone for the Ark and cherubim as latter-day Christian angels.

Fans of Harrison Ford would be familiar with this image.  The Ark.

"As for the foreigner who does not belong to your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of your great name and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm—when he comes and prays toward this temple, 33 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and do whatever the foreigner asks of you, so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your own people Israel, and may know that this house I have built bears your Name.

A rather reassuring quote.

Quotes of the Day

Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life. Laughing at someone else's can shorten it.

Cullen Hightower

and I might add, laughing at your spouse's mistake is the fastest way to end it.

ASUS: 10-inch Eee PC coming this year, Atom in June

Jerry Shen, ASUS CEO, is casually twisting Eee PC fans into a tizzy this morning. At the launch of the 8.9-inch Eee PC 900 in Taiwan, he uttered the magical phrase "10-inch Eee PC" for the first time. Expected sometime later this year, Shen said that the 10-inch screen will be the biggest allowed on the Eee PC. Good for you Jerry, but we've got the feeling that you've completely forgotten about the original promise of a $200, 7-inch laptop. Surely we're due for a price drop now that the 900 is out, right?
Update: Asus also confirmed that an Atom-based Eee PC will launch at the Computex show just like we heard. No details about the screen size or any other specs were provided.

Reading the Bible

Finally got around to read the Bible regularly again.  Setting aside quiet time from my busy schedule for this.  Pray that I can keep this up.

Oh boy.  Something we all sort of know but to have it reported officially is something else.

Asus Eee PC 900 hits the US on May 12th

Engadget just reported that the long awaited eeePC 900 will be shipped soon.  it's worth while to wait it out if you are in the market for one.  Do note that the Linux and XP versions are shipped with different size second SSD (apparently to offset the overhead with the XP licence).  So those with access to existing XP licences might just want to buy the Linux version and do the installation yourself.

In search of new compact camera

Been in the market in search of a nice compact digital camera.  Sam and Leslie from John 3:16 have been doing their devilishly most to part my cash for the new Ricoh GR Digital II.  Much hesitation in part due to price, and in part due to concern regarding the availability of a diving case.

After browsing on internet for half the night (while on shift, guiltily so), Sea & Sea's rebadged Ricoh GX-100 seemed to fit the bill better, unless of course, Sea & Sea decided to bring out a casing for GR Digital II. Chris Nelson posted this picture taken with the Sea & Sea's setup. Wow....

Another user of the same system posted this

More mouth-watering, eye-wetting shots here.

Interesting Mosaic Effect.

Spotted this on my friend's facebook page.

Certainly something that we can do for effect in photo montage.

About a watch

This is a story about a watch.  It's my watch.

This is also the watch that Harold Click wore.  He is a fictional charater from the movie, Stranger than fiction.  For reasons that are totally beyond me, I was very touched by the movie.  It wasn't a movie about great love.  No, it was very far from it.  The best he could say that was remotely sweet was "I want you". Or that he could barely strummed the chords of Whole Wide World (by Wreckless Eric) while straining in falsetto.

But perhaps, it was about great love after all. It was the best love he knows and he offered it.  Perhaps not all love story has to be an epic.  Perhaps great love stories could be told of the similar ordinary people that walked past us only just.  Great love story is about people who knows love on their own level, and give themselve to the love ones the best they could.

Do I know love?

Grind

Work is turning into a grind of late.  Strange that I never used to feel this way.  I used to just take it on and thrive on doing what others can't.  Now, I find myself wondering about a different life style.

Perhaps I am just getting old and feeling it.  Perhaps i am just coming to the realisation that, after 12 years of being a doctor, I barely travelled, dived, attended concert or even read a good book.

Or perhaps being a doctor is what i know best and I have not bothered, or too scared to, venture beyond the horizon and something different.  At this point, I can't help but think of Rowena.  Wondering which of the pacific islands she left her latest foot prints.

image

This is one of the photo I took on Poon Hill (4000m above sea level) looking at one of the peaks in annapunam ranges.  That's a good 5 years ago and the last time I seriously travelled.

This is the last time i dived, exactly 2 years ago.  Not even a shark to show for. Growl.

It's time for change.  No! it's time for changes!!!!
