Have been a while since I enjoy the distance skating. While trying out Eddie's sample boots from Micro, I decided to try out the not-so-new Park Connector Network. This particular section connects East Coast Park with Changi Beach Park, and aptly named, Coastal Park Connector. The distance is 8km, and the route is slightly technically in that you do have to negotiate a narrow bridge, some moderately sharp turns, and one traffic junction.
Overall, the journey is rather enjoyable. However, the section along Changi Coastal Road is littered with twits and leaf. Beginner skater need not apply, unless you like some grazed knees to end your day. Having said that, the lack of crowd is certainly a big draw. I can see myself doing this route more often from now.

I know, I know, I slacked off when I reached the Changi Beach, but you really ought to if you do pop by.
Finally took a long overdue break, much thanks to Andrea for squeezing in my leave. Thanks.
Pei Ling first pampered me with a birthday treat of spa, dinner and resort stay, and subsequently endured a bumpy boat ride to Tioman for diving.
I feel most rested now, and far less grouchy. Think I need to do this a bit more regularly :)
With the slew of GPS-enable cameras hitting the market, I had an idea.
Now, while applauding the efforts of these camera makers for finally catching up the idea of geotagging, putting GPS receiver into a camera is not probably going to work very well. Those with GPS-enabled camera will probably already know this. I am very fond of my Nokia N82, and was delighted when Nokia started trialing out camera software that captures the GPS coordinates as well. 2 problems immediately became apparent.
1. Warm start time. Even without accounting for cold start time, even the warm start time inherent in offline GPS system (takes about 20sec on average) makes it impossible to geotag on the fly. Particular if you consider most of us geotag photos while on the prowl.
2. Battery consumption. Now, let's face it. these companies are not GPS receiver makers. They are just not very good at keeping the power consumption down. ie. if you keep your GPS online so that you can geotag on the fly, you will find your battery drained very fast. My N82 drained my battery within 2 hours even when not in navigation mode, while my eTrex HCX will last me a day, even with tract recording on.
For now, I am using offline geotagging system. I keep my eTrex HCX with me when I go shooting and sync them at home using RoboGeo.
So It occurs to me, won't it be nice if our GPS receiver has voice recording function? It wont' be just useful for photographers. Anyone who use their GPS for exploration will do well with this feature. Noting down scenes, happenings without having to dig out one's notebook? Of coz you can do this now with a third device such as a digital voice recorder, but certainly you can appreciate the merit of keeping it down to a single device.
